The Burlington City Council recently heard from numerous Chittenden County residents who oppose the presence of F-35 fighter jets at the Burlington Airport, citing harmful noise levels that disrupt daily life and education, especially for children. During a packed hearing, opponents pushed for a resolution urging Vermont’s congressional delegation to replace the F-35 mission with a less disruptive alternative. Despite past efforts to oppose the F-35s, similar resolutions have had little impact. The council ultimately supported the creation of a committee to follow up with the congressional delegation and engage with the airport and the Air National Guard on ongoing noise mitigation efforts.
