The Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport has made significant progress with its residential sound insulation program, launched in 2022 to mitigate aircraft noise for nearby residents. The program has completed work on 15 homes, with plans to soundproof 65 more by the end of 2024 and design another 30 homes for next year. The project aims to cover homes near the airport, especially in South Burlington, Winooski, and surrounding areas. The noise exposure map, essential to the project, will be updated in October 2024 to include F-35 fighter jet noise. Funding is primarily from the FAA, with additional partnerships helping reduce costs. The airport is also seeking a $17 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense to expand the program further.
