Short history of Airport Noise Mitigation Efforts
The Burlington International Airport (BTV) has been actively engaged in mitigating noise impacts from aircraft for over 30 years through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Part 150 program. This program assesses noise levels and creates a Noise Compatibility Program (NCP) to minimize disruptions for the surrounding communities. The airport provides resources like noise insulation programs, monitoring systems, and a noise exposure map, and offers platforms for public feedback. Recent developments include efforts to address the noise caused by F-35 jets, with local government officials advocating for missions that reduce harmful noise. Community outreach continues through noise monitoring and public portals for transparency.
