USAF Response to Airport Commission Re: Afterburner Use
Good morning,
There has been a lot of misinformation out there so we want to be clear with the community; there has been no change to the Air National Guard’s plan for afterburner use at Burlington Air Guard Station. The 158th Fighter Wing does not plan to fly more than 5 percent of its take-offs in afterburner. An additional National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis is not required.
As F-35s continue to arrive and operate in Burlington, the Air Force will track afterburner use and monitor potential impacts. As noted in the 2013 F-35A Operational Basing Record of Decision and Environmental Impact Study, the Air Force also plans to revalidate projected noise levels once the full complement of F-35A aircraft are operating at Burlington Air Guard Station.
Thank you,
v/r,
