Critical Call to Action!
Dear friends and neighbors,
Wednesday evening a capacity crowd gave the Winooski City Council a standing ovation for unanimously voting against basing the F-35 warplane in Burlington. Representing the city most impacted by military jets already, the Council cited the health effects and other severe community impacts the super loud F-35 would have, as well as the astronomical cost of the plane. Each plane costs more than 20 times (and climbing) the annual budget of Winooski, Vermont’s most diverse community. The Winooski vote was the result of persistent education and campaigning by F-35 basing opponents, and the accountability of City Councilors to their constituents.
When will Vermont’s Congressional delegation decide to honor democratic accountability and take the same principled stand? Senators Leahy and Sanders have refused to even meet with residents about the basing, let alone hold public hearings. They have instead acted as unconditional boosters of the basing showing no regard for the damaging impacts of the F-35.
If you think this is unacceptable, then please join F-35 basing opponents at Saturday’s important rally and march in Burlington.
Saturday, July 13th Anti-F35 March and Rally beginning at City Hall in Burlington at 2pm with stops at each member of the Congressional Delegation’s offices for speeches and to voice and show our opposition to F-35 Warplanes in Vermont.
