MONTPELIER, Vt. – A group of local citizens says they don’t want nuclear weapon systems based in the Green Mountain State.
On Tuesday, ‘Citizens Against Nuclear Bombers in Vermont‘ met underneath the Golden Dome in the Vermont State House.
This conversation stems from the basing of the F-35s at Burlington International Airport in South Burlington. Those fighter jets are slated to arrive this September.
Campaign Director, James Ehlers tells us, one of his concerns is having nuclear weapons stored at a commercial airport, which is set in a residential neighborhood.
“We take the F-35s, a nuclear bomber, into our airport, we become a target. Going forward we are going to continue to let it be known, that we don’t want a nuclear weapons platform hosted in Vermont,” said James Ehlers.
Ehlers said a resolution will be introduced in the Vermont House, asking all lawmakers to stand with the organization.
